Series; Silhouettes of a Great Variety of Flowering Plants

Silhouettes of a Great Variety of Flowering Plants - Lovely design from an 1861 series featuring kabuki actors on the sides of paper lanterns. The colorful portraits are set against a background of autumn grasses and blossoms in soft gray silhouette. A poem slip hanging from the bottom of each lantern flutters in the breeze. Some designs feature deluxe printing techniques such as embossing or burnishing. A beautiful and rarely seen Toyokuni III series.

Special detail - Delicate embossing on the pink collar and yellow sash, embossed lines across the pink background of the lantern, burnishing on the black areas of the lantern.

Condition - This print with nice color and detail as shown. Stitching holes at side, repaired.
