Mikawa, Snow at Okazaki, Kofuyu and Ishikawa Goemon, No. 11 - Terrific image of the famous bandit Ishikawa Goemon, who disguised himself as a wandering monk while plotting to avenge his father's death. He hid out at the Buddhist temple of Nanzen-ji in Kyoto. Here the young girl Kofuyu offers him a small gift on a black lacquer tray as he travels through the snow in his monk's robes, a small gong hanging from his neck. The inset above features a court cap and sword. A wonderful scene from this classic kabuki play.
