The Kyoho Era (1716 - 1736) - Beautiful portrait of a courtesan from the Kyoho era (1716 - 1736) tying a sash around her waist, a roll of tissues in her mouth. Her long hair is smoothly sleekly back away from her face to fall loosely over her shoulders, with an ornate lacquer comb perched atop her head. She wears a kimono with bands of pale green and white dotted with purple flowers, along with red areas of stylized waves and feathery branches. In the background at left, two bearers carry a palanquin, a yakko or footman following behind with a lantern. A lovely design with fine line work and burnishing on the hair, and embossing along the edges of the tissues.
