Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a beauty kneeling before a monk, looking over her shoulder with an alarmed expression, a bird cage on the ground at her side. At right, a samurai draws his sword with an angry frown as the yakko or footman below holds his hand out in a stopping motion, urging him to remain calm. The monk scowls at the beauty, wearing a monk's mantle over a gray robe, a wooden pail in his hand. Blossoming cherry branches frame the stone steps behind the group, while a cloth panel hung from a tree at left provides privacy for the outing. An attractive setting with expressive figures.
