Original Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904) Japanese Woodblock Print
Sumo Wrestler, Yuranosuke, and Samurai for Snow, Moon, and Flower

Comments - Interesting print featuring portraits of three kabuki actors in shaped insets representing snow (bottom right), moon (upper right), and flower (upper left), a popular theme for prints. At upper left, a sumo wrestler in a rope patterned kimono looks down with an angry grimace. At bottom right, the leader of the 47 ronin, Yuranosuke, looks up at the falling snow during the night attack on Moronao's mansion, his spear resting against his shoulder. At upper right, a samurai wearing a white robe with a faint embossed pattern over armor appears worried. A block at lower left contains text. Nice expressive figures.

Artist - Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904)

Image Size - 14" x 19 1/2" + margin as shown

Condition - This print with nice detail as shown. Two separate panels. Slight thinning along vertical fold at sides, repaired. A few creases at edges. Please see photos for details.
