Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from a story about the samurai Jihizo, who was the son of the great strategist Yamamoto Kansuke, who is trying to obtain his father's books of strategy. At left, Jihizo's wife, Otane, holds a baby boy that she has been caring for to her chest, leaning forward with an eager smile. Jihizo holds up a scroll in his hand, frowning as he tilts his chin up defiantly. He wears a yellow patterned vest over a black kimono with yellow grasses and dots, his two swords at his sides. From left, the actors are Iwai Shijaku and Sawamura Tossho. Nice large expressive figures, detailed with burnishing on the black kimono and handsome woodgrain impression on the softly shaded night sky.
