Lord Minamoto Yoritomo Visits Kyoto, 1863

Comments - Interesting depiction of noblemen gathered at the Imperial Palace in Kyoto during the visit of the Shogun Minamoto no Yoritomo in 1863 to pay his respects to the Emperor. The Shogun's power was in decline at the time, and the procession had not been made for many years, so this was an important event, resulting in many woodblock prints of the subject. Wearing formal court attire, the men pass through a gate at right and across the courtyard, their long pants trailing beneath their feet. A handsome design, nicely detailed.

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with nice detail as shown. Vertical centerfold. Creasing, slight thinning at edge. Please see photos for details.
