Kato Kiyomasa, No. 18 - Terrific scene of the warrior Kato Kiyomasa rescuing women from Fushimi Castle in Kyoto after a devastating earthquake in 1596. Dressed in full armor and carrying a naginata, he kneels solicitously beside a young woman near the tent walls of an encampment. At right smoke pours from the ruins of the building. Above, young boys practice martial arts in the countryside. A wonderfully detailed image with vibrant color, embossing on the white kimono, and burnishing on the black court cap.
