Moriyama: Bando Shuka I - Attractive kabuki portrait of Bando Shuka I as a young woman carrying a shallow wooden tub of laundry under her arm. She smiles as she looks to the side out of the corners of her eyes, the sleeve of her red floral under robe tied back with a yellow sash. She has a tie-dyed towel draped over her other shoulder, and her hair is pulled back into a smooth knot adorned with a red lacquer comb and white ribbon. Her dark blue outer kimono is patterned with thistles. A cloud-like border separates the figure from a view of the river with a willow tree on the shore and mountains in the distance. The title cartouche at upper right is framed by a length of white cloth and a small laundry tub. A handsome composition, nicely detailed with embossing on the cloth in the tub under her arm.
