Comments - Great scene from the drama "Taiheiki Shiraishi Banashi," a tale about two sisters who avenge their father's death. After Shiga Danshichi killed their father, the courtesan Miyagino and her younger sister Shinobu vowed revenge. After secretly training in martial arts, they challenged Shiga to a duel. They are shown here fearlessly facing the warrior. At right, Shinobu wields a sickle attached to a chain In the center, Shiga grips his sword up above his head with both hands as he prepares to attack Miyagino at left, who uses a naginata. Noblemen and samurai are gathered to watch the fight. An incredible depiction of these heroic women, who succeeded in killing Shiga. A student of Utamaro, and we rarely prints by Tsukimaro.
