Famous Restaurants of the Eastern Capital - Handsome print from a collaborative series by Toyokuni III and Hiroshige, published between 1852 and 1853. Toyokuni III created the large actor portraits in the foreground, with Hiroshige designing the smaller landscape and still-life insets relating to the featured restaurant or its location. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has many of these images in its collection. These attractive designs are beautifully colored and detailed, making them a great choice for a collector interested in Edo era woodblocks.

The Momokawaro Restaurant, 1852 - Handsome portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Ukiyo-Inosuke in the kabuki drama "Nobori-goi Taki-no Shiranami." The young rogue looks up with a sorrowful expression, frowning slightly. He wears a gray and blue plaid kimono trimmed with a black collar, a dark blue robe draped over one shoulder and a dotted towel tied around his neck. His hair is pulled back into a thin topknot, a few loose strands framing his careworn face. The fan-shaped inset above shows the Momokawaro Restaurant at Ukiyo-shoji under a slanting rain, the scene rendered in soft tones of gray. An attractive design, nicely detailed. Includes embossing on the dotted towel.
