Sakakibara Shiho - Born in Kyoto in 1887, Sakakibara Shiho studied traditional Japanese painting at the Kyoto City School of Art and Craft and the Kyoto City Technical College of Painting. He is best known for his beautiful paintings of birds and flowers based on the style of the Maruyama-Shijo school, with many woodblocks made from his original designs. These lyrical images combine careful observation from nature with soft washes of color and a fine sense of asymmetrical balance. The subtle colors and gradations of tone are exquisitely rendered, creating richly elegant compositions. His large format prints would make wonderful framed displays, adding a lovely touch of nature to any space.

This presentation - This print comes in a handsome presentation format as originally issued. The print is loose within a windowed paper mat that slides into a green outer folder with the series title on it, accompanied by a text page in Japanese with a brief commentary on the work and the artist's life, dated Showa 46 (1971). Rare to find and a nice choice for a collector.
