Comments - Terrific triptych depicting Lord Minamoto no Yoshiie meeting with a daimyo during his conquest of Oshu. The entrance to the palace is shown at left, with noblemen dressed in formal court robes lining the verandah. The daimyo sits on a low platform at upper left, a blind shielding his face from view. An attendant carries a poem slip on an offering tray down the stairs as Yoshiie kneels below, surrounded by other bowing retainers dressed in voluminous robes. A cherry tree blooms in the courtyard, and another tree is covered with orange fruit. A beautiful design with subtle burnished patterns on the black robes at right and faint embossing on the cherry blossoms. A lovely scene from courtly life in old Japan.
