Great Battle of the Former Nine Years War, 1855

Comments - Dramatic scene of a battle during the Former Nine Years War against the Abe clan for control of Mutsu Province. At left, the great Minamoto general Hachimantaro Yoshiie gallops ahead on a black horse, his sword in hand as an enemy in the center charges at him on a brown horse. His opponent wields a sword in each hand, his hair streaming in the wind as he rides, trampling over bodies littering the battlefield. Large pine trees stand at right, framing a view of mountains in the distance. A lively scene with a handsome composition.
