Otani Tomoemon V as Abe no Sadato, 1865

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Otani Tomoemon V as the samurai Abe no Sadato, grimacing angrily as he grips his sword upright with both hands. He wears a vest patterned with yellow clouds and blue flowers over a suit of armor, the sleeves of his white outer robe pushed down to his waist. His short hair sticks up wildly atop his head, with longer locks pulled into a low ponytail over his back. A blue sash ties his sleeves out of the way for easier movement. A terrific large expressive figure, detailed with fine line work in the hair and soft shading on the night sky.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 9 5/8" + left margin as shown
