Beauty Carrying a Child on Her Back, 1863

Comments - Charming kabuki scene of a beauty carrying a child on her back snuggled beneath her heavy outer kimono. She smiles as she looks over her shoulder the infant, the girl peeping back at her with wide eyes. The woman's hair is pulled back into a smooth bun adorned with a floral ornament and red ribbons, a dotted towel around her head. She holds a decorated paddle in her outstretched hand called a hagoita, used for a traditional New Year's Day game similar to badminton. A sweet image, nicely detailed with soft shading on the evening sky.

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 3/4" + left margin as shown
