The Death of Yamamoto Kansuke at the Battle of Kawanakajima on the 4th Day of the 9th Month, 1561, circa 1847 - 1848

Comments - Fantastic scene from the Fourth Battle of Kawanakajima in 1561 of Yamamoto Kansuke, one of Takeda Shingen's trusted "Twenty-four Generals," and his men making a final stand on a small rocky hill. Uesugi Kenshin's troops fire volleys of shots at the tattered remnants of Yamamoto's forces, filling the sky with clouds of smoke. A number of samurai lie dead and wounded on the ground, while others lean heavily on their weapons for support, bleeding from wounds with arrows protruding from their bodies. At upper right, Yamamoto sits at the top of the hill holding a fan. Believing that he had failed, he died in battle after charging the enemy, never knowing that his strategic plan for the battle would result in victory. A dramatic and moving image of the last moments of this famous warrior's life.
