Nakamura Shikan as Fuwa Banzaemon, 1861

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of Nakamura Shikan as the samurai Fuwa Banzaemon, looking out the window of an upper story, one hand gripping the sliding shoji panels on either side of him. He wears an intricately patterned kimono in red orange and violet, with a design of swirling clouds and splashing waves. He looks suspiciously to the side, frowning, his brows furrowed. His hair is pulled into a thick topknot, with short wings on either side of his head, and he has a sword at his side. An attractive composition with fine architectural detail.
