These dramatic images of famous warriors created a sensation with the Japanese public. Otomo no Kanemura Fighting the Usurper Otomi Matori, 1880 - Dramatic scene of the warrior Otomo no Kanemura fighting off the usurper Otomi Matori. His lively gray horse rears on its back legs as he draws his sword back above his head, ready to strike a blow at his enemy on the ground. Otomi Matori thrusts hand out in a stopping gesture, about to be felled by Kanemura's swordsmanship. Armed warriors come running up behind the horseman, ready to assist. A lively image full of energy and action.
