Series; Chronicle of Annual Events in the Tokugawa Era
Watching Martial Arts Practice - Intriguing scene of a Tokugawa daimyo watching his retainers practicing martial arts with bamboo swords. He sits on a stool at right, leaning forward with interest as the tightly packed samurai swing their weapons. A black and white striped cloth panel encloses the temporary arena, with the tower of a castle rising in the distance. The purple border features the hollyhock leaf crest of the Tokugawa clan. A handsome design.
