Series; Silhouettes of a Great Variety of Flowering Plants

Silhouettes of a Great Variety of Flowering Plants - Lovely design from an 1861 series featuring kabuki actors on the sides of paper lanterns. The colorful portraits are set against a background of autumn grasses and blossoms in soft gray silhouette. A poem slip hanging from the bottom of each lantern flutters in the breeze. Some designs feature deluxe printing techniques such as embossing or burnishing. A beautiful and rarely seen Toyokuni III series.

Special detail - Embossing on the hilt of the sword and the white cord tied around the topknot, embossed lines across the yellow background of the lantern, burnishing on the black areas of the lantern.

Condition - This print with nice color and detail as shown. Stitching holes at side, repaired.
