Sato Masakiyo, Beauty and Young Prince, 1875

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a beauty caught between two angry samurai as a young prince sits beside an armrest at right, a worried expression on his face. The prince has a small sword at his side, his long hair pulled back into a low ponytail. The woman smiles happily, unaware that the samurai Yorimitsu at right is grimacing with rage as he glares at the bearded warrior Sato Masakiyo at left. Nice large expressive figures set against a deep red background. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Gonjuro, Ichikawa Danjuro, Iwai Hanshiro, Nakamura Nakazo, and Ichikawa [?]. Includes embossing on the beauty's white kimono and collar.

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 28 1/2"
