Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Matsudaiya Kogoro and His Wife, Osen, 1855

Comments - Handsome kabuki double portrait of Matsudaiya Kogoro and his wife, Osen. He looks up at her with an angry frown, his arms folded across his chest and his hands tucked into the sleeves of his striped kimono. The beauty seems unaware of his anger, though, smiling happily as she looks to the side. She wears a boldly patterned kimono over a red under robe tied with a black obi, her hair adorned with a red lacquer comb, a tie-dyed ribbon, and hairpins, one decorated with a pink blossom and tassels. Nice expressive figures with fine line work in the hair. Includes burnishing on the black collars and obi.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 3/8" x 9 1/8"

Condition - This print with nice detail as shown. Backed with paper. Slight curling. Please see photos for details.
