Comments - Interesting scene of a mitate or imagined kabuki performance. At right, the immortal Arara Sennin beats a beauty with his walking staff. Dressed in ragged robes and a girdle made of leaves, the shaggy unkempt man grimaces angrily, his face contorted with rage as he raises the stick high while grabbing the woman by the collar. She struggles to get away, a pail of water spilled on the ground nearby. At left, a samurai reacts with alarm, reaching forward with both hands, while the woman sitting on the bank alongside a waterfall smiles and waves happily, a child playing with a wind wheel on her lap. A fascinating subject with a striking natural setting.
