Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Commoner with a Sword and Smiling Young Samurai

Comments - Handsome kabuki print featuring two actor portraits surrounded by a gray border with white crests. At left, a commoner looks up with a distraught expression as he hides a sword behind his back, biting his lower lip. At right, a young samurai smiles happily as he looks over his shoulder, a fan decorated with peonies in his hand. One sleeve of his blue outer robe has been pushed down to the waist to reveal a red kimono with a star pattern and small bells. His hair is pulled back into a thick topknot tied with a white cord. Nice expressive figures in an attractive format.

Image Size - 9 3/4" x 14 1/4" + margins as shown
