Bando Shuka as Hashimotoya Shiraito, 1852

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Bando Shuka as Shiraito of the Hashimotoya Restaurant, looking up with a grin as she bites her tongue, holding up a gold coin she has just taken from a paper wrapper. She wears a red striped kimono with blue checked sleeves over a red under robe with a geometric pattern and a tie-died collar. The few loose whisps of hair framing her face give her a slightly disheveled appearance. A nice large expressive figure, detailed with fine line work in the hair.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/4" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Vertical and diagonal fold. Paper remnant on reverse from previous backing. Tear across corner, repaired. Creasing throughout, a couple marks. Please see photos for details.
