The Meiji Era (1868 - 1912) - Lovely design of a Meiji Era beauty holding a folding fan. She looks over her shoulder, smiling happily, her open lips showing small white teeth. Her hair is piled atop her head with an elegant lacquer comb and floral ornaments. Her kimono features a beautiful pattern of delicate blossoms and leaves. A Chinese flag and jacket hang in the inset above, a reference to the Sino-Japanese War of 1894 - 1895. A wonderful composition with the figure extending above the top edge of the lower image. Beautifully drawn and detailed with fine embossing on the white kimono collar.
