Beauties in an Interior, 1855 - Attractive scene of two beauties looking through a doorway in a mansion. The woman at right peers around the edge of a shoji panel, her black kimono bordered with floral medallions trailing on the floor. In the room beyond, the beauty leans back on one hand as she chats with her companion. The room opens onto a view of the water, and a candle burns in a stand at lower left. An interesting interior setting, nicely detailed with burnishing on the black kimono and the edges of the black lacquer trim on the wall panels.
