Horio Yoshiharu Battling a Giant boar in Mt. Inaba, 1847 by Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Original Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861) Japanese Woodblock Print
Horio Yoshiharu Battling a Giant boar in Mt. Inaba, 1847

Comments - Fantastic image of Horio Yoshiharu (Doji Yoshiharu) battling a giant boar in Mt. Inaba. The young warrior sends the beast tumbling backwards with a push of his hands, the boar falling into the river below. Leaves knocked from the trees flutter down over the animal, while other samurai watch the fight from among the trunks at upper right. In the center, a vine with leaves changing color winds around a pine, with a waterfall in the distance. The great daimyo Hideyoshi took Yoshiharu into his service after hearing of his impressive feat in overcoming the boar with his bare hands. A dynamic design with an expressive figure and wonderful detail in the mountain setting. The first time we've offered this great Kuniyoshi design.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28 7/8"

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small wormholes, repaired. A few creases, slight rubbing at edges, slight rippling in left panel. Please see photos for details.
