Yoritomo Returns to Kyoto

Comments - Handsome scene of the Shogun Minamoto no Yoritomo returning to Kyoto. In the room at right, beauties bow in greeting to a lord, other noblemen sitting respectfully nearby. In the center, samurai in court dress walk through a grant entrance gate into the palace. At left, retainers are gathered in the street, one group holding a pole topped with a huge folding fan while another warrior carries a red fringed standard topped with the paulownia crest of the Minamoto clan. A fascinating image with wonderful detail and an interesting perspective looking down into the palace.
