Onikojima Yataro Raising His Sword, 1876

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of Onikojima Yataro at right raising his sword above his head, threatening to strike Uesugi Kenshin, who grimaces back at him angrily. Yataro wears an elegant coat featuring a dragon and a pleated collar, trimmed with yellow bows, over an embossed white kimono. At left, Wada Kihei glares at the two men with a tight-lipped frown. From left, the actors are Nakamura Shikan, Bando Hikosaburo, and Ichikawa Sadanji. Nice large expressive figures set off by a deep red background.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 28 3/8"

Condition - This print with nice color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. A few wormholes, repaired. Stains on face. Please see photos for details.
