The Bravery of Horsemen Fighting One on One at Kagoshima, 1877 - Fantastic image of two horsemen fighting one on one at Kagoshima. In the center, a rebel samurai holds his seat as his horse bucks, kicking its hind legs high. At left, an Imperial Army officer gallops directly at the rebel, leaping dead and dying samurai on the ground. Clouds of smoke billow across the background as troops in the center fire off a volley of shots. A dramatic battle scene from the Satsuma Rebellion, detailed with burnishing on the black uniforms and boots. This triptych does not appear to have been recorded by Roger Keyes. A rare Yoshitoshi triptych and a great subject for a Yoshitoshi collector.
