Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Yonezo as Gosho Goromaru in a scene from "Juni-toki kaikei Soga," a drama about the famous Soga Brothers. The two brothers snuck into Lord Yoritomo's hunting camp at the foot of Mt. Fuji to kill the nobleman Suketsune, who murdered their father when the brothers were young boys. Here, Gosho Goromaru, one of Yoritomo's retainers, looks up from the women's kimono he has been hiding beneath to approach Soga Goro, grimacing angrily as rain fall steadily through the night sky. He wears a fine suit of armor over a brocade kimono, his swords at his side. An expressive figure. Nicely detailed with delicate cloth embossing on the pink robe and accents of metallic pigment that have oxidized to a dark tone on the armor.
