Mukojima Restaurant: Nakamura Kanemon IV as Miyamoto Musashi, 1852 - Great kabuki portrait of Nakamura Kanemon IV as the samurai Miyamoto Musashi in "Katakiuchi Nito Eiyuki." He grips a wooden practice sword above his head, grimacing angrily as he stares ahead intently. He wears a blue kimono lined with red over armor trimmed with black fur cuffs. His hair is cropped short atop his head with longer hair pulled back into a thick ponytail tied with a white cord. Above, customers crowd the entrance of the busy Mukojima Restaurant in winter, snow blanketing the pine trees nearby. A nice large expressive figure, detailed with fine line work in the hair and a hand-applied spattering of gofun (white pigment) to simulate falling snow. The first time we've seen this Kuniyoshi design.
