Nobleman, Princess, and Retainers, 1864

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a princess kneeling at the feet of a nobleman, who has a sash tied around his forehead to indicate that he has been ill. She smiles coyly as she looks up out of the corners of her eyes, one hand on the nobleman's sword and the other holding up her flowing kimono sleeve. On either side, two of the daimyo's retainers hold lanterns high, suspicious of the beauty. In the background, spider webs hang from the eaves, framing a view of the night sky. An intriguing subject with expressive figures.
