Original Takane Koko (1902 - 1979) Japanese Woodblock Print
Flower Rain, circa 1930s

Comments - Beautiful shin-hanga portrait of a beauty in a light spring rain, a few raindrops slanting across the sky. She looks down with a sweet smile, holding an umbrella over her shoulder. She wears a deep violet kimono trimmed with a narrow red blossom print, her tie-dyed under robe peeking from beneath her sleeves. A few cherry blossom petals drift down across the scene. Beautifully detailed with delicate pink shading on the cheeks and around the eyes, and also on the inside of her ear, and an embossed pattern on the white collar. An outstanding design by Takane Koko (also known as Takane Koji), of whom only two beauty prints are known, both published by Dareisha in the 1930s. A lovely design. Takane's works are rarely seen on the market, and this is a wonderful opportunity for a collector of shin-hanga beauty prints.
