Battle in Hyogo, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Terrific illustration of a battle taking place in the countryside of Hyogo among pine trees. In the center, a samurai gallops along on a brown horse, gripping his sword above his head with both hands. Enemies tumble to the ground all around him. At left, a warrior stands his ground facing a hail of arrows fired by the enemies behind shields at upper right, slashing the missiles in two with his blade. At right, a samurai uses the trunk of a small tree ripped from the ground as a club. At top center, a samurai sails through the air as a horseman races past below. Ships are massed along the horizon across the water, the sails tightly packed together. An action-packed scene in a striking natural setting, filled with detail.
