Scene of the Eastern Capital's Asakusa Temple Zuijin Gate

Comments - Great image of actors offstage outside Zuijin Gate at Asakusa Temple. The beauty at right looks back with a worried smile at her companion frowns at her angrily. The famous Nabaya Teahouse can be seen behind him, with blue curtains featuring paulownia leaves and blossoms and paper lanterns hanging from the eaves. At upper left, a statue of a seated nobleman with a bow and arrows can be seen. The left panel includes Iwai Kumesaburo III and Ichikawa Danjuro VIII. The center panel shows Bando Hikosaburo IV and Nakamura Utaemon IV, while Onoe Baiko IV and Nakamura Utaemon IV appear at right. A rare look at actors in their free time, in a wonderfully detailed and interesting setting.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 29"
