Series; Eighty Forms of Brother Pictures, circa 1845

Beauty with a Tray of Food, circa 1845 - Lovely portrait of a beauty preparing food, cutting slices to drop into a sizzling pan on the coals of a hibachi beside a blue and white ceramic plate of food. She pauses to look back over her shoulder with a happy smile, wearing an intricately patterned black and blue outer robe over a floral print kimono and red under robe. An inset in the form of an open book depicts the famous warrior monk Benkei performing a ritual dance before a meal. A charming design from a rarely seen series pairing beauties with scenes from history and legend. The exact number of prints in the series is not known, but is likely much fewer than the eighty of the title. The first time we've seen a design from this series.
