Long Shot of an Arrow at the Battle of Hyogo, 1860

Comments - Dramatic scene from the Battle of Hyogo between the Nitta and Ashikaga clans. In the center, a warrior sits astride a dappled horse, having just fired off an arrow at the approaching enemy ships. He glares as he looks up, following the path of the arrow through the sky. He wears a fine suit of armor and a battle helmet topped with anglers, a cape billowing out over his back. At left, a general sits on a folding stool, holding a folding fan and wearing a horned battle helmet topped with a dragon, his retainers gathered along the rocky shore. The horizon is a mass of sails, indicating the size of the approaching fleet. A terrific image with wonderful detail.
