Original Painted Suruga Kite - Handsome original painted kite in the traditional suruga form, with paper over bamboo ribs. This great design features a closeup portrait of a samurai dressed for battle in armor with a dragon atop his helmet, and a quiver of arrows above his back at upper left. Kato Tatsusaburo was a master suruga kite maker and painter who published a portfolio titled "Kites of Japan: A Vanishing Art" in 1971. The kite comes with a certificate in Japanese explaining the origin of suruga kites and identifying the artist.

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Slight wrinkling, dried tape at bottom end of center rib. Please see photos for details.
