Kataoka Nizaemon VIII as a Nobleman, 1860 - Bold kabuki portrait of Kataoka Nizaemon VIII as a nobleman, looking up with a worried frown. He wears a black coat trimmed with rows of cord and bows over a kimono with a patchwork of yellow and brown and blue prints, his hair pulled back into a topknot tied with an unusual pattern of cord. A rolled up blind hangs overhead, and the tip of a fan in his hand can be seen at bottom. A large expressive figure, beautifully detailed with fine line work in the hair.
