A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Kuniyoshi Prints - One of the great masters of ukiyo-e woodblocks, Kuniyoshi is perhaps best known for his warrior prints, but he worked in a range of subjects. In addition to dramatic samurai and battle scenes, he also created kabuki, beauty, landscape, and comic designs, each expertly drawn and composed. Don't miss this opportunity to acquire a classic woodblock by this great Edo era artist at a low opening bid price.

The Battle of Hyogo, 1849 - 1852 - Interesting scene from the Battle of Hyogo of priests watching as Shirafuji Hikoshichiro (the real-life Hatakeyama Shigetada) destroys sacred books at a temple. Texts are scattered across the floor, and a man at left center recoils in horror. The battle continues in the courtyard outside the temple at upper left, with warriors fighting alongside a lotus pond. Wonderful detail in the interior furnishings and expressive faces.
