Comments - Interest kabuki scene of a confrontation at a tea stand from a play about the courtesan Koito and her lover, the fireman Sashichi, which ends tragically with Koito killing Sashichi. Here, the couple argue with a man at a tea stall, with Koito kneeling at left and brandishing a long letter at him, waving it above her head with both hands. The man grimaces, holding up a lantern to shine light on the message. At right, Sashichi stands with his foot atop the back of a struggling pilgrim with his vest over his head, frowning unhappily. From left, the actors are Iwai Shijaku II as Koito, Nakamura Tsuruzo I as Yasunoya Jubei, and Bando Hikosaburo V as both Omatsuri Sashichi and Hanji Kuzaemon. A lively scene with expressive figures and a handsome setting.
