Worried Traveler, 1861

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a worried traveler outside a business, looking back over his shoulder with a distraught expression, a hat in his hand and a bundle tied over his shoulders. The commoner at left stares back at him with a frown as he gestures with one hand, his kimono tucked up at the back for easier movement. At right, a beauty carries a wooden box with a hole in the top, a rolled up tatami mat tucked under her arm. Green, rust, and black striped cloth panels and red paper lanterns hang across the top of the scene, with a staircase just inside the doorway at right. Nice expressive figures in a handsomely detailed setting.

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 29 1/4"
