Puzzled Monk, 1854

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a monk holding a sword wrapped in brocade cloth, a rather puzzled expression on his face as he leans forward, gesturing with his other hand. The hair on his once-shaved head is growing out. A fire blazes in the floor hearth behind him, a large kettle resting in the ashes. At lower right, a tray holds a dish of fish. The room is shabby with cracked and missing plaster, and falling snow can be seen through the window at upper left. Nice detail in the interior setting and furnishings.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 9 3/4"

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. A few repairs and creases. Please see photos for details.
