Comments - Interesting scene from the play "Yume Musubu Cho ni Torioi" of a group of travelers meeting in a forest. Jujibei's daughter, Ohaya, kneels on the ground at left, smiling eagerly as she looks up. In the center, Honda no Jiro Chikatsune scowls back at her, holding a fan in his hand. At right, the samurai Akogi Gennojo lifts a woven straw hat above his head as he looks cautiously to the side. He is dressed for traveling, with a dark green coat over his blue kimono, his two swords are tucked at his side in protective covers. At upper left, Shinsho as Yuki no Shichiro Tomomitsu stands in the bushes, frowning unhappily, wearing a straw vest over his black kimono. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Shinsho, Onoe Kikugoro IV, Bando Kamezo V, and Bando Hikosaburo V. A handsome kabuki triptych with a nicely detailed, atmospheric setting.
