Shingen and Kenshin at the Battle of Kawanakajima

Comments - Terrific kabuki triptych depicting a famous confrontation between Uesugi Kenshin and Takeda Shingen during the Battle of Kawanakajima. At right, Kenshin gallops into the enemy camp on a dappled horse in a surprise attack. In the center, Shingen deftly knocks Kenshin's sword loose from his hand with a blow from his fan. Shingen grimaces with rage at his attacker, wearing a magnificent helmet topped with a demon's head and a flowing white wig. At left, one of Shingen's retainers quickly comes to his defense, gripping his spear with both hands. A great design with large figures set against a dramatic red background bordered by a simulated black lacquer frame. Nicely detailed with faint embossing on the white wig.
