Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Angry Samurai, 1881

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of a samurai confronting the man at left, glaring at his angrily, his brows furrowed. He wears a vest with a dragon and yellow flames on it over a suit of armor with a lion on the chest plate, a white sash tied around his forehead. The young warrior at right grips his spear with both hands, watching his fellow samurai closely. Light blue panels decorated with cloud motifs line the back of the room, with purple and white drapery overhead. A colorful design with expressive figures and nice detail in the armor, including burnishing. Please note, the darkening of the face and hands on the man at left is due to oxidation of the pigment used.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28" + top margin as shown
