Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Alarmed Monks, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Interesting kabuki double portrait of two alarmed looking monks. The young man at left hops about on one foot, raising his sleeves above his heard with a distraught frown. The older monk seated beside him watches him with a worried expression, holding his fan to his head. He wears a red outer robe with pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone over a blue under robe and pants with a delicate leaf and blossom motif. Nice expressive figures, detailed with an embossed pattern on the young man's light blue kimono.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 3/4"

Condition - This print with nice detail as shown. Loss at edge, small holes, repaired. Slight rubbing at edges and creasing. Please see photos for details.
